HUDSON, NY — At the May 9 Hudson City School District Board of Education Meeting, Superintendent Dr. Lisamarie Spindler publicly announced the recipients of the “Hudson Has Heart” awards, representing April 2023.
In October 2022, the Hudson City School District announced the launch of a monthly recognition titled the “Hudson Has Heart” Awards to acknowledge the selfless contributions and passionate members that make the Hudson City School District community what it is. Individuals considered are nominated by peers for making a positive difference in Hudson City School District by selfless, passionate actions and being dedicated to the district.
Numerous nominations were sent in of students, staff and community members, respectively, who elevate and proudly represent the culture and values that are cherished and implemented here in Hudson.
Starting with the student category, Magdalena Ramos received an overwhelmingly positive nomination for her ability to multitask efficiently and successfully.
“Magdalena is an extremely dedicated, hard worker, evident by her college courses she has taken as a junior in high school,” Spindler said. “She always finds a way to balance academics with her social life and prioritizes her involvement with the school by being the President of Model UN and Tri M Clubs. Additionally, Magdalena is involved in the Environmental Club, the Hudson High School Newspaper Club, the Art Club and the Yearbook Committee. In the arts, this recipient can be seen in the Hudson High School Band, playing the flute, piccolo and sax, as well as the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. On top of this, this leader still finds time to work four days a week at the Spotlight Cinemas in Hudson.”
In the staff category, Junior high School teacher Laurel Semanick was honored for her steady ability to offer opportunities for scholars, including an upcoming trip to Nature’s Classroom.
“Laurel Semanick always ensures that her student’s needs are being met and leads the way in fundraising efforts every year through flowers and bulbs and selling snacks during lunch,” Spindler said. “At the end of the day, this person’s nominator said the recipient is ‘reliable’, one of the most important qualities when considering the winners of this award.”
Tina Dipper was selected as the recipient of the Community Member award based on her contributions to and direct involvement with young girls in the district.
“As the executive director of Perfect Ten Afterschool, an out-of-school program for girls in the city, Tina Dipper has been involved with offering programs such as aerial yoga, jewelry making, horseback riding and outdoor nature classes, among many others,” Spindler said.
As the district congratulates its newest recipients, it would like to remind the community that this is indeed a monthly award and to keep submitting nominations for April’s recipients. Voting will close on June 2 at 3 p.m. and the winners will be announced at the June 6 school board meeting.
