HCSD Weekly Safety and Security Update 6-8-23
Dear Hudson City School District community,
As you likely saw earlier this week, Cheryl Rabinowitz, our excellent Manager of Instructional Technology and Data Protection Officer, will serve as Interim Superintendent when I exit the district at the end of this month to accept another professional opportunity.
Ms. Rabinowitz’s selection as my successor is great news for safety and security in the Hudson City School District. She will ensure that the safety and security enhancements we have pursued with such determination will continue. In fact, Ms. Rabinowitz has been the driving force behind many initiatives, in particular those that involve computer software programs and platforms. I am confident she will continue advancing these improvements.
Progress continues on the systems we have announced previously. The next security measure we are undertaking is our periodic password-change initiative. The change for employees and Board of Education members is taking place now; students and staff will be prompted to change theirs in the fall.
This week, our school district and a large section of the country coped with reduced air quality from smoke blown south from wildfires in Canada. Yesterday, I suspended outdoor activities to keep everyone safe and we will continue to monitor environmental conditions to ensure our students, faculty and staff are in the most conducive environments for education.
At the same time, our positive safety initiatives continue to foster a constructive and welcoming climate in our schools. This week, I announced our Hudson Has Heart award winners for May, and for the first time, four students were honored: Hudson Senior High School class officers Neshath Khan, Antonio Gambino, Kara Sullivan and Kamryn LaPage. It is important to recognize and honor the leadership and character these students have shown, and to appreciate the ways in which those vital traits make our schools even more special places to learn and grow.
