HUDSON, NY –  The Hudson City School District is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Tia L. Pressey as the Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Manager of the Hudson City School District. Dr. Pressey’s first day in the District was Monday, October 2, 2023.

Dr. Pressey comes to the Hudson City School District with over 22 years of experience implementing culturally responsive practices, while also serving as a second-grade teacher of common branches at Baltimore City Public Schools; speech improvement teacher, supervisor of speech improvement, and speech manager at the New York City Department of Education; and as an Assistant Director of Pupil Personnel Services at the North Colonie Central School District.

“The diversity at Hudson City School District impressed me greatly. From my experiences with the interview committee to my interactions with faculty, students, and staff while visiting the campus, I decided the Hudson City School District was the right fit for me. I look forward to working with this great community to support all students,” Dr. Pressey said.

Dr. Pressey has a distinguished background in education with a Ph.D in Educational Leadership from Concordia University Chicago, a Master of Science degree in Communication Diseases and Disorders (Speech Pathology) from Western Kentucky University, a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from the College of St. Rose, an MBA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications Rhetoric and Media Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Diseases and Disorders (Speech Pathology) from the University of Pittsburgh.

“The passion for diversity, equity and inclusion possessed by Dr. Pressey is certainly impressive and a key reason for her hire,” Hudson City School District Dr. Juliette Pennyman said. “The District is confident in Dr. Pressey’s ability to prepare our student body to enter the college and career fields with the appropriate modern social skills to live harmoniously with others in a global society.”

With a diverse demographic of students and staff, Dr. Pressey said she is energized and motivated to lead the charge in implementing positive and inclusive practices and discussions in Hudson.

“I am committed to leading the DEI work and collaborating with the Hudson City School District community to set every student up for success in school and the ever-evolving workplace. By working together, we can close achievement and discipline gaps. I look forward to the work ahead, creating access and opportunities that benefit our amazingly diverse student body,” Dr. Pressey said. “In the words of Dr. Juliette Pennyman, our new Superintendent of the Hudson City School District, ‘together, we can!’”
