HUDSON, N.Y. – The Hudson City School District Board of Education elected Lauren Jones as a member of the Board on Oct.10, 2023. She succeeds Lucinda Segar, who stepped down to spend more time with her family.
Jones will fill the remainder of Segar’s term, which expires on June 30, 2024. Segar had served on the Board of Education since Dec. 18, 2017.
Jones, a mother of two Hudson City School District students, is a farmer/small business owner with a decade of ties to the community. In her application letter to the Board of Education, Jones said she wants to learn more about how Hudson children’s needs are being met and use that knowledge to serve Hudson’s children and families.
“I am genuinely rooted in the community and schools, and I have a desire to learn more and to contribute,” Jones said.
Board of Education President Willette Jones looks forward to welcoming Lauren Jones (no relation) to the Board.
“Ms. Jones brings an excellent blend of skills: deep knowledge of our community, a close connection to our schools through her children, and real-world business expertise,” Willette Jones said. “She clearly is invested in Hudson and I am confident she will have a substantial impact.”
Board Vice President Mark DePace, at Tuesday’s Board meeting, represented the Board of Education in thanking Segar for her contributions. He also offered gratitude that Segar’s vital insights about Board service helped confirm his decision to seek a seat on the Board.
Segar said she appreciated the opportunity to contribute to education in Hudson. “It’s been a great honor to be on the Board, but I’m still a member of the community and I’ll be around,” she said.
