HUDSON, NY – The Hudson City School District has received the highest level of a prestigious safety award from Utica National Insurance Group, the 2023-24 School Safety Excellence Award, Superintendent Dr. Juliette Pennyman announced recently.

The honor recognizes school districts’ safety efforts as they work to help keep students, staff and visitors safe. Hudson’s award was presented at Utica National’s 42nd school safety seminar. Utica National insures more than 300 school districts in upstate New York.

“There is nothing more important than the safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors, and we’re proud that this honor recognizes the culture of safety and security that our entire school district meticulously cultivates every day,” Dr. Pennyman said.

Utica National’s School Safety Excellence Award Program has three levels: titanium, platinum, and gold. Data is used to determine honorees. Areas of review include playground safety, anti-bullying programs, surveys and prevention efforts, Utica National said.

“Safety and health concerns continue to be a priority in our school districts,” explained Brian Saville, Senior Vice President in Utica National’s Educational Institutions Unit. “Districts that go above and beyond to provide a safe, healthy and focused culture for learning are to be applauded, and we’re pleased to count the Hudson City School District among them.”
