Dear Hudson City School District Community,

Three members of the Hudson City School District Board of Education have been honored by the New York State School Boards Association’s Board Excellence Recognition Program.

The awards were announced by Superintendent Dr. Juliette Pennyman during the March 21, 2024 Board of Education meeting.

The Board Excellence Recognition Program acknowledges school board members who strive to continually expand their governance knowledge and skills. Hudson’s honorees:

  • Mark DePace, Board Vice President: Level 2 Lifetime Achievement Award and a Level 1 Board Achievement Award.
  • Selha Graham: Level 2 Lifetime Achievement Award.
  • Lakia Walker: Level 1 Board Achievement Award.

“Thank you so much for all you do for our students and our school district as a whole ,” Dr. Pennyman said. “We really appreciate every one of you, and thank you also for continuing to be a Board that learns.”

The Board Excellence Recognition Program has four levels of honors. Each achievement level is sequentially attained by accumulating points for participating in NYSSBA training, workshops, events and activities, as well as for taking on board-related roles such as president of the Board and serving as NYSSBA’s advocacy liaison. Level 2 winners receive a certificate and the honor is announced in NYSSBA’s newspaper, “On Board.” Level 1 honorees receive a certificate of recognition.

Board of Education members are volunteers. The Hudson Board of Education has seven members, each of whom serves a three-year term.

The New York State School Boards Association provides information, training, advocacy and guidance on matters affecting school boards, and collaborates with other educational and related organizations to promote excellence in education for public school students. Sincerely,
